We are proposing to add raingardens along Blythe Road in W14. This would include new greenery between Masbro Road and Girdlers Road, and at the corners of the junctions Aynhoe Road and Girdlers Road.
Raingardens help tackle local flooding by reducing the amount of rainwater that enters the sewer allowing rainwater to soak into the ground naturally. The green spaces will also act as an important green buffer between the road and the pavement.
Additionally, we want to make the area around Aynhoe Road and Girdlers Road safer for pedestrians by creating a large space at the crossing to increase visibility to passing cars. The proposals will not affect parking, with no parking loss planned as part of the works.
The project is funded with support from local investors through the H&F Green Investment scheme. It offers residents a chance to earn fixed returns on investments from £5 while helping fund vital green projects such as this.
In our aim to increase greening in the borough and better manage the risk of surface water flooding we are proposing to install:
Green spaces on the footway along Blythe Road outside Walpole Court (by the fencing), Boswell Court (between the trees) and outside Coleridge Court on Ceylon Road and Faroe Road (along the side of the building)
Raingardens with a larger crossing on the carriageway of Blythe Road, junctions with Aynhoe and Girdlers Road
New gravel tree pits on the footway of Blythe Road outside Coleridge Court (shops) and Calcott Court
With the proposed raingardens and green spaces we will improve the pedestrian experience and not affect accessibility and safety.
