Hammersmith & Fulham’s non-domestic buildings include 12,000 businesses, 60 schools, two main hospitals, three football stadiums, a prison and a large variety of retail, leisure and entertainment venues.

Together, these account for 42% of the borough’s emissions, with around two thirds of this from electricity and one third gas.

Funding and a skills gap associated with low-carbon retrofit and buildings design are among the key challenges attributed to us moving towards net-zero, but these are areas where businesses and organisations can provide guidance and support.

Solar energy for H&F's buildings

The borough generates a small amount of renewable electricity from 200 solar installation. We are working to encourage uptake of solar panels around the borough.

If your business has an area of roof facing between south-east and south-west, and that is not heavily shadowed by trees and other buildings, installing solar panels could prove an excellent investment, reducing both your energy prices and your carbon footprint.

You could take the opportunity to save more energy by insulating the roof at the same time. Accredited installers for solar energy can be found via the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

Support H&F's solar energy co-op

Help us to decarbonise the borough by supporting the Hammersmith & Fulham Community Energy (HFCE) cooperative.

The volunteer-led group is working with the council to add solar panels to community buildings in the borough such as primary schools, sports centres and community centres. These will then provide green energy sold to the building and also generate some funds for community initiatives, you can find out more on the Repowering London website.

You can support HFCE to decarbonise the borough in the form of:

  • Investment, funding or match-funding solar energy a fantastic way to give back to the community
  • Displaying posters
  • Providing space or refreshments for community engagement events on community solar

Or any other way you think you could further the aims of community renewable energy with the resources and expertise your business has to offer.

If any of these opportunities are of interest and you would like to find out more please email h&fcommunityenergy@gmail.com
