We want to hear your views on how street trading should work in Hammersmith & Fulham
Calling all current – or future – street traders, local business owners, residents and regular shoppers at our markets! We want to understand what works well and what could be better.
We're updating our street trading rules for the first time since 2004 to make sure they support modern businesses while keeping our streets safe and vibrant for everyone.
Your feedback will directly shape our new policy for 2025-2030.
Why we're doing this
Our current street trading rules haven't been formally updated since 2004. The way people shop and run businesses has changed dramatically since then, and we want to make sure our policies support:
Street traders - with clearer, fairer rules that help businesses thrive
Residents and shoppers - with well-managed, safe, and vibrant street markets
Local businesses - with street trading that complements rather than competes unfairly.
What we're proposing
We're consulting on five key changes:
A new comprehensive policy - Our first formal Markets & Street Trading Policy to replace ad-hoc decision making
Updated licence conditions - Modernised rules that reflect how street trading works today
Revised product guidelines - Updated list of what can and can't be sold from street stalls
Market rights declaration - Formal recognition of our established markets
Extended coverage - Bringing more streets under regulated street trading to ensure fairness.
What happens next
Please share your views by 17 September 2025.
Your feedback will help shape the new policy and conditions which, if approved, will take effect from October 2025, with all traders notified in advance.
If you need help accessing any of the information in this consultation, or to take part in the survey, please contact streettrading@lbhf.gov.uk.
