The current site of the former nursery showing the dilapidated building and untended grounds

Introduction

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is consulting with residents on the proposals to redevelop the Mund Street school site to provide approximately 100 new homes for the local community.

The former school site on Mund Street, now surplus to educational requirements, offers an opportunity to provide much needed new homes and support the strategy to ensure 3,000 new energy efficient affordable homes are built or underway over the next four years.

The redevelopment of the Mund Street School site will:

  • Deliver approximately 100 high quality, energy-efficient homes on this under-used site
  • Provide affordable housing for local people (a minimum of 50% of the new homes will be affordable and prioritised for residents of West Kensington & Gibbs Green estates)
  • Be self-financing to avoid putting pressure on other council budgets
  • Provide high-quality landscaping which will encourage biodiversity and complement the surrounding area
  • Be a ‘car-free development (only accessible parking)

Following feedback from the first public exhibition which took place in Summer 2022, further work has been carried out on the designs and proposals for this development.

Changes to parking on Gibbs Green Estate - complete the survey below

Our design team are currently working up initial proposals for new homes on the site of the former school and have asked us to consider relocating five parking spaces on Gibbs Green Close to allow more homes to be built on the site.

Residents of the new homes would not be allowed to apply for parking permits on the existing estate.

There are currently 25 permit holders on the estate who can park in any one of the 37 parking bays available on a “first-come, first-served” basis. To help us understand how the existing parking spaces are being used we have done a parking capacity survey. The survey measured the average numbers of parked cars over a 7-day period across the 37 parking bays available on Gibbs Green Estate:

  • 9.00am: average number of cars parked 19 (47% capacity)
  • 3.00pm: average number of cars parked 17 (41% capacity)
  • 10:30pm: average number of cars parked 23 (56% capacity)

Considering the survey results, we have developed a number of options and we want to hear your views. Please complete the survey below, which will close at 5pm on Sunday 21 July 2024.
