Review of the council's Statement of Gambling Policy
Draft revised Statement of Gambling Policy 2025 – 2028
We are looking for the thoughts of residents, businesses and other stakeholders so we can make some changes to the council's new gambling policy.
This policy helps us regulate the following types of premises:
- Betting shops, casinos, bingo clubs, adult gaming centres and family entertainment centres.
- We also issue notices and permits for gaming machines in alcohol-licensed premises, such as pubs and members’ clubs.
Our new policy is more restrictive than previous policies, and we also have introduced a new evidence base (local area profile), which shows the location of gambling premises alongside lots of other information such as crime, deprivation and vulnerability.
Background
The Gambling Act 2005 became effective in 2007 and H&F published its Statement of Gambling Policy in January of that year.
An amended version of the policy was published in January 2010, and again in 2013, 2016 ,2019 and 2022. The Statement of Gambling Policy is now due to be reviewed, amended and consulted on again.
The current 2022 Statement of Gambling Policy has now been revised and updated.
Please see the draft revised Statement of Gambling Policy 2025 - 2028 (449KB pdf) for your consideration.
The amended sections and words have been highlighted with tracked changes in red, to make it easier for you to identify the changes. The survey at the bottom of this page will help walk you through the various updates.
Your views are really important in helping to shape the policy so that not only is it compliant with the law and guidance, but also adequately reflects local circumstances and ensures that the Council continues to discharge its duty to exercise the Licensing Authority's functions under the Act.
Closing date
The 5 week public consultation period for our gambling policy will run from the 21 October 2024 and will close at midnight on the 24 November 2024.
