On average, a third of the carbon emissions a person produces come from the things we buy and use which includes the food and drink consumed.
Recycling alone isn’t enough; we need to reduce the amount of things we buy, use and throw away.
Our vision for 2030 is to reduce the borough’s consumption-based emissions from the things we buy and use, including electricals, food, textiles and plastic, by two thirds, and encourage people to make sustainable choices so that little is thrown away, and goods and materials have a second life through reuse, repair and recycling.
Whether it’s a smashed phone, silent alarm clock or faulty toaster – repairing rather than replacing electronic goods helps reduce the amount of waste we produce and reduce H&F carbon footprint.
No previous experience required - learn and ask questions while observing our experienced fixers on the day. However, volunteer fixers should be able to help out on a regular basis, not for one-off events only.

Donate unwanted office equipment your company is no longer using to be wiped, repaired and then donated to vulnerable communities in the borough, including refugees and homeless shelters.
Preferred items include smart devices such as laptops, tablets, and mobile phones, but our fixers accept most electronic items, from coffee machines to game consoles.
Finding physical spaces in London can be challenging for local community-focused organisations with low budgets.
Got space to give?
Repair hubs and cafes, such as Restart Parties, are locally run events in community spaces to offer free or low-cost repair services for electronics, textiles and furniture.
Alternatively, reach out to us via the H&F Climate Alliance contact form if you can offer the use of a meeting room or other forms of physical space across the borough.
Fund a Library of Things
From carpet cleaners to ice cream makers, Hammersmith & Fulham’s Library of Things is providing hundreds of people with high quality equipment at rental costs as low as £1 per day.
H&F’s first Library of Things opened its doors in Hammersmith’s Livat shopping centre, just in time for London Climate Action Week 2022.
Help us fund more libraries across the borough to help create a less wasteful borrow-don’t-buy culture during the cost-of-living crisis.
Support electrical repair workshops and programmes
Team Repair offers dedicated kits and learning materials for schools, councils and clubs for children 7+. Children can also take part in a 12 month programme that exposes them to key science, technology and repair skills.
By tinkering with a new gadget every month, children will get hands-on experience with a wide range of technologies, learn how to perform some of the most common repair, and use some of the most important tools.
Four levels of complexity teaching tech basics like buttons and electricity, to advanced topics like displays, solar panels and wireless communication.
Powered by an app to guide children through repairs, teach science concepts and encourage them to help each other solve problems.
If you are interested in becoming an educational partner, or you would like to support the team, reach out to anais@team.repair.
