What is a Local Nature Reserve?

A Local Nature Reserve is a statutory protected area of land designated by the local authority because of its local special natural interest, educational and community value.

    What is the site boundary?

The proposed site is the meadow and scrub area on the west of the Wormwood Scrubs. A map can be viewed on the main page. This area does not include any sports pitches. The site is 13.4 hectares in size.

Would I still be able to access and use the site as I have previously?

Yes. Access to the site will remain and residents are welcome to use it for any lawful activities, such as exercise. Only activities that are already regulated by byelaws, such as riding a motorbike through the area, are not allowed.

Would I still be able to walk my dog through the site?

Yes. Dogs are still permitted throughout the site, but we strongly encourage that dogs are kept on leads, particularly during bird nesting periods, as we have endangered ground nesting birds onsite.

Would I be able to volunteer at the Local Nature Reserve?

Yes. For volunteering opportunities, either get in touch with the Friends of Wormwood Scrubs or the Ecology team at ecology@lbhf.gov.uk.

What will happen following this consultation?

If the majority of responses to this consultation are in favour of the new site designation, we will begin the formal consultation process with Natural England. Should Natural England support our proposal, we will run a public notice for one month before declaring the Local Nature Reserve.
