What are the key housing challenges?
- Meeting housing needs - Hammersmith and Fulham must build at least 1609 new homes per year to meet demand. We need a mix of sizes, types, and tenures to support different groups, from families to older people
- More affordable homes - Many residents struggle with housing costs and there is a need for more genuinely affordable homes, in particular social housing.
- Houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) - Shared housing provides affordable homes for young professionals, and lower-income residents. However, too many in one area can impact community balance, parking, and waste management.
How can the Local Plan help?
- Allocating land for housing - Identifying sustainable locations that can support high-quality, higher- density housing to meet housing targets and provide a mix of home types
- Delivering affordable homes - Requiring affordable homes on development sites and financial contributions towards affordable homes across the borough.
- Managing HMOs - Establishing policies to balance the benefits with potential community impacts.
