New tree buildouts on Thorpebank Road
We are proposing to plant more trees on Thorpebank Road, between Dunraven Road and Uxbridge Road, as part of our programme to increase greening across the borough.
Trees help create healthier neighbourhoods by improving air quality, providing shade, supporting wildlife, and helping to reduce the effects of climate change.
What are the plans?
Following recent improvements to existing tree buildouts on Thorpebank Road, and with support from local residents, we are proposing to install nine new tree buildouts in the carriageway.
These buildouts will provide space for new trees and planting, helping to:
- make the street greener and more attractive
- increase biodiversity and support wildlife
- improve the local environment.
Seven of the proposed tree buildouts will be around 2.5 square metres in size (1.5m x 1.7m). Two larger buildouts, which will include cycle parking, will be around 6.5 square metres (1.3m x 5m).
Carriageway tree buildouts are proposed because they provide more space for planting while maintaining accessibility and a consistent street design.
As part of these proposals, four parking spaces would be removed from Thorpebank Road.
The project is being funded through the H&F Green Investment Fund, which helps support local environmental improvements across the borough.
Proposed tree buildoutWhere will the trees go?
The proposed locations for new tree buildouts can be seen in the maps with the locations listed below.
- Outside property 1a
- Outside property 2b (larger buildout with cycle parking)
- Outside properties 13-15
- Outside properties 22-24
- Outside properties 68-70
- Outside properties 79-81 (larger buildout with cycle parking)
- Outside properties 80-82
- Outside property 102
- Outside property 107
Inspection pits will be dug at the proposed locations to check for underground services before we determine whether the location is acceptable for tree planting.
Tree buildout adoption
If the proposals go ahead, residents will have the opportunity to help care for a tree buildout by planting flowers, herbs or shrubs at the base of the tree.
Tree buildouts will be available to adopt on a first come, first served basis. Any tree buildouts that are not adopted will be maintained by the council.
The residents of Thorpbank Road are welcome to request a tree species for the buildouts, our arboricultural officer will take these into consideration and plant them if they are suitable for the location and available at our nursery.
